Q. I am looking for a VB database book that I can use.

I found the following :

Database Developer's Guide with Visual Basic
By Roger Jennings

Detailed techniques for developing production-quality database applications and client/server front-ends. Features 3.5MB of source code, applications, and databases on a disk. SC, with 3.5" disk. 1,130pp. 3bc. 1994.

but this book covers VB3 and not VB4. Do you know if there's any similar books out there for VB4?

Thanks,
Jian L. Zhen.

A. Jian,

There are a large number of books now available for VB4. Because VB4 is so much larger than VB3, VB4's book titles are more diverse than previously. This means you can find some huge books dedicated entirely to one aspect of VB4 or another.

There are some good books out there on VB4 Database. I happen to think that the manual provides me with most of the information I need, but this is a personal preference.

One book that I found to be particularly well written and structured was "Visual Basic 4 Database How-To" by The Waite Group (www.waite.com). It goes through Data Access at an easy pace, in an almost tutorial style. There is a CD of code and such included, so you can easily check out the samples.

Apart from this one, you may be interested to have a look at the "JET Developer's Guide" by Microsoft Press. It's more of a backgrounder, a guide to using the JET engine from any and all environments.

I have looked at both these books and can tell you they are good. I am sure that there are other books out there that are also worthy, I just haven't read them myself.

I hope this helps - good luck.
